Apple has marked two major weaknesses in WebKit, the engine that powers Safari and all iOS and iPadOS web browsers. The vulnerabilities might let the attackers run malicious code on the user's device just by driving users to a hacked website.

The weaknesses might enable the criminals to get access to very important information like passwords and credit card details or even to take over the device. Apple called the attack a “very sophisticated one” and acknowledged that it was “highly selective” in choosing the victims.

Apple said that many devices are in great danger if the software has not been updated. The following models are affected:

iPhone 11 and newer

iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)

iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and newer)

iPad Air (3rd generation and newer)

iPad (8th generation and newer)

iPad mini (5th generation and newer)

People who have these devices are strongly encouraged to upgrade to the latest software version at once to keep their data safe.

The problem has been tackled by Apple's release of iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2. Devices that have automatic updates turned on might already include the patch. Other users can manually update their devices through Settings > General > Software Update.

Kurt Knutsson, along with other cybersecurity experts, suggests that one should not open any unsolicited links, even if they come from known people, as that will help in protecting oneself from possible attacks.

The notification emphasizes the need for a regular update of devices with the latest security patch. Users of the mentioned iPhones and iPads should top up their ranks and install the update in order to prevent data leaks and device takeover.
